6 Ways to Break in a New Car Engine

Not many people understand the term “breaking in” to an engine. It is important to know the meaning of this phrase before jumping into the argument whether you should do it or not. So to explain it in simple words, breaking in refers to giving the engine of a new car enough time and space in order for it to adjust working properly.

1- Do not apply force at the accelerator

Perhaps the most important thing is to never floor the accelerator while driving as it gives a big amount of strain to the cylinders, piston rings, and engine oil. Moreover, harsh acceleration will always be harmful to the car no matter how many miles you have covered. In order to break in the car properly, accelerate smoothly in the first 1,000 miles along with working on the gears fastly before the RPM can go too high. This is because the new tires are applied with a lubricant that can only wear off during the first few hundred miles. In order for the brakes to provide smooth stopping and develop friction spots, brakes require gentle handling at the start.
