The Chopta is the small town of Uttarakhand in Rudraprayag district. It is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the Garhwal region. It is surrounded by diverse lush green forests which is the habitat of may Himalayan birds, animals, and vegetation. It is the part of Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary. This sanctuary is distributed between Rudraprayag and Chamoli district. The Chopta is also known as Mini Switzerland in India. It is the place which you can visit any time in the year. The appearance of this place changes according to weather but serenity remains the same though out the time. It is the starting point of Tungnath Chandrashila Trek.
Chandrashila is the name of the summit from there you can experience the 360-degree view of surrounding Himalayan peaks. The peaks which you will see from this summit are Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath Peak, Bandarpoonch Peak, Chaukhamba Peaks. According to the belief once upon a time, Moon God meditated here so on the basis of that this summit named Chandrashila. Another attraction of this trek route is Tungnath Temple which is one of the highest temples of Lord Shiva. This temple is perched at the elevation of 3400 meters. This trek route is suitable for all age groups. An average fit person can easily trek.
Day 1: Haridwar -Sari Village- Deorital
Reach the Sari village base camp, have rest and trek towards Deorital Campsite. As you reach there know your trip mates, enjoy the surroundings and campsite.
Day 2: Deorital- Rohini Bugyal- Chopta
Start your day early in the morning and trek towards Chopta. During the route, experience the most beautiful Rohini Bugyal grassland which is a ground shaped the wild landscape. As you reach Chopta you will be amazed by the views of Himalayan Peaks and surrounding forest
Day 3: Chopta- Tungnath- Chandrashila-Chopta
Today you will experience one of the highest temple complexes of Lord Shiva and the wonderful Chandrashila Summit.
Day 4:Chopta- Haridwar
Goodbye to this beautiful location and head-back to Haridwar for your ongoing journey.
How to Reach Chopta
The road journey is the best option to reach Chopta. From Haridwar, you will find various private and government buses and private cabs which will take you to the Chopta. It will take 6 hrs to reach Chopta trek. The time of the journey depends upon the climatic conditions, road conditions, and traffic conditions.
The nearest railway station is Haridwar. It is finely connected with the major railway stations in India. The distance between Haridwar and Chopta is 190 km. From the railway station, you can board on the government/ private bus or hire some private tourist vehicle.
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. It is in the Dehradun and it is the major and capital city of the state Uttarakhand. The Dehradun is 226 km away from Chopta. The airport is well connected to all major airports via Delhi. There are flights on the regular interval from the Delhi airport to Jolly Grant Airport.
